On Tuesday 18 March, the Economics Society had the privilege of hosting Dougal Scott, Director of Communications and Digital at Sky. Dougal shared his extensive experience in the telecoms and media industries, shedding light on the fascinating convergence of these two sectors.
During his talk, Dougal walked students through the major transformations that the telecommunications industry has undergone—from privatisation in the 1980s to the auctioning of broadband spectrum to mobile phone companies. His detailed explanations provided a behind-the-scenes look at the evolution of this vital industry, offering students a rare opportunity to connect theoretical concepts with real-world applications.
Jack S, President of the Economics Society, commented, “Dougal’s talk gave us a realistic view of the theories we learn in class, making them come alive in a practical context.”
This event exemplifies the society’s commitment to enriching students’ understanding of economics and its applications in modern industries. The Economics Society continues to inspire and educate, bringing experts from diverse fields to share their invaluable knowledge.
