It has been an action packed week of rugby 7s with the U18s and U16s participating in the West of England 7s and the U18s then travelling to Plymouth to compete in the county 7s. All three tournaments proved to be successful with Exeter teams returning from each having won a trophy.
The U18s travelled to King’s College Taunton on Sunday for their WOE tournament and played superbly winning the plate competition. Wins in their group against Bryanston (38 – 12) and Ivybridge (33 – 5) and defeat against Cheltenham (19 – 24) meant they progressed to the plate competition. Wins in the semi-final against Bristol GS (40-0) and then Sherborne (21 – 19) in the final completed really successful day of 7s for the seniors. The U16s had a slightly tougher start to their tournament at Taunton School losing all three of their group matches despite some good rugby and lots of fighting spirit. It meant they progressed to the Bowl tournament (tier 3) where they dominated with semi-final win against King’s College Taunton and then victory in the bowl final against Bryanston (52 – 7).
To round off a superb week the senior squad then won the county 7s on Wednesday. Victories against Colyton GS (43 – 0), Plymouth College (26 – 0) and Ivybridge (26 -7) saw them top the group before two superb performances in the semi against Mount Kelly (26 – 7) and Ivybridge (40 – 7) in the final saw them crowned county champs. It sets them up really nicely for the national 7s at Rosslyn Park in the penultimate week of term.
