National Winter Championships – swimming

Posted: 9th December 2024

Last weekend was very successful for James B (Middle Fifth) and Holly J (Fourth Form) who were in Sheffield racing at The National Winter Championships. This is the biggest English swimming meet of the winter months and attended by Britain’s top senior swimmers including Olympians as well as World and European record holders.

There are only two age categories for this championships (17 and under and 18 and over) meaning qualifying for this event is extremely tough. James qualified for a number of events and achieved a personal best in all of his races across a jam packed weekend. Holly qualified for three butterfly events and was one of only two 12 year olds to attend. Holly raced two PB’s and reached the Junior Finals (17 and under) in the 200 fly, finishing 4th, and the 100 fly, where she finished 3rd. This now means that she is the fastest 12 year old in the UK across the 50m, 100m and 200m butterfly.
