Junior Reflections Week 10 November 2024

Dear Parents,

Well, many of us woke up to a rather pretty winter wonderland at school on Thursday (certainly unexpected) but I must have heard a hundred times from the pupils that this was the best day ever!!! With this in mind, I am sending out a little plea to ensure that your children come to school with a school coat. We really encourage the pupils to get some fresh air during the day and with the rain (and snow) setting in it is important that they are appropriately dressed; especially when the pupils are in PE kit, tracksuit bottoms do need to be worn.

Christmas post box

The Christmas post box will be returning this year! If your child would like to send a Christmas card to another pupil in the junior school, they will be able to post their cards between Wednesday 4 and Friday 13 December. Please ensure the recipient’s full name and form is on the front of the envelope as this will really help the House Captains when they are sorting the post. Please can we ask that you do not include any chocolates or sweets with the cards due to allergies.

Extra curricular activities

We hosted our first swimming gala this week against Taunton school; this was the first gala of the year and was a huge success. Well done to all who swam, and I am very much looking forward to supporting the next one in a couple of weeks’ time. This week we have had 76 pupils taking part in a national competition: the Primary Maths Challenge. The pupils from Upper Two and Lower Two pitted themselves against some really tricky maths questions and enjoyed challenging themselves. We await the results which should be in next week! As the colder weather approaches, Form One had a special drama lesson involving their own hats, scarves, and gloves and what a colourful wonderful array of pompoms and knit wear we had. They used a green screen for the activity and have created a little surprise for parents (shhhhhh!)

Sadly, the weather meant that many of our fixtures were cancelled but I am looking forward to hearing about how the U11A girls’ hockey team got on in the Devon Tournament that took place this afternoon – I hope they weren’t too cold.

It looks like it is going to be a rather wet and windy weekend so do stay safe and dry and I look forward to seeing everyone next week.

Today is the start of @_place2be's Children's Mental Health Week and this year’s theme is ‘Know Yourself, Grow Yourself' which encourages self-discovery and growth. One in five children will face mental health challenges throughout their childhood so we’re encouraging our pupils to express their emotions to help them become more in touch with their feelings.

Wilfred in Upper Sixth led a donations drive of menstrual products, during the autumn term, to provide sanitary products to women experiencing homelessness in Exeter. He is pictured here delivering the donations to the #BraveSpaces team, a project run by @colabexeter.

We're really proud of Wilfred's efforts and for acting with great kindness and integrity to support those less fortunate in the city!
