Athletics championships update

Posted: 14th June 2024

On Saturday June 8, 12 pupils from Third Form to Lower Sixth competed at the Devon Schools Athletics Championships at Exeter Arena. To reach this stage is a fantastic achievement as pupils are representing the Exeter and East Devon Schools area at a prestigious county athletics meet.

Notable performances include:

  • Rory BW (Middle Fifth) who competed in the Inter Boys 3000m and finished 1st with a time of 9:07.75. Rory was also competing against Senior Boys, Senior Girls and Inter Girls and finished 1st overall, which is a fantastic achievement considering he is only in Year 10.
  • Isla G (Fourth Form) is county champion in the Junior Girls javelin throwing 27.47m which is a brilliant achievement. Looking at the other age groups results, she finished 4th overall even beating a Senior Girls performance – who is nearly 5 years older than her!
  • Arabella KM (Upper Fifth) finished 2nd in the Inter Girls 3000m.
  • Keira M (Third Form) finished 3rd in the Minor Girls javelin.

All of the pupils reached the finals in the track events and for some pupils this was their first time performing at a big competition – a great achievement.

Isla G and Rory BW have both qualified for the South West Schools Athletics Championships representing Devon Schools this Saturday June 15 at Exeter Arena. Both will wear the county vest and are competing to qualify to represent Devon Schools at the English Track and Field Championships at Exeter Arena.

On Sunday June 9, 20 pupils from the senior school and 13 pupils from the junior school competed at the Mount Kelly Trophy at Tavistock Track.

This is the county qualifier which is part of the National Prep Schools Athletics entry.

Prep schools across Devon competed for the Mount Kelly trophy and relay trophies. Notable performances include:
