Junior Reflections Week 14 2024

Dear parents,

This week

It has been lovely to see all the pupils full of energy and eager (well, most of them) to get back to the classroom, but more importantly, keen to see their friends. I am just sorry that I could not have brought more settled weather for the start of the New Year. A gentle reminder that all pupils need a coat in school and ideally a hat, especially as it turns colder, as it is important that they get outside for some fresh air during break times.

Assembly

As with every year, my assembly on Wednesday was based around New Year’s resolutions; this always makes me smile as each year, I hear the same suggestions: do my homework, make the bed, look after my pet, and I always wonder how long they last. We discussed the importance of not giving up if we slip from our goal, as it is too easy to just say we won’t continue, whereas perseverance is such an important quality to have.

Our new Upper Two monitors were announced in assembly, and they have already taken their new duties very seriously, as I witnessed in the dining room. We also took the opportunity to thank our last term’s monitors, who really embraced the opportunity and were fantastic role models for the school.

School Clubs

Finally, a reminder that lunchtime and after-school clubs will start on Monday.

Happy New Year and have a lovely weekend.

Upper One Author Visit

On Wednesday 17 January children’s author Jo Earlam will be visiting Exeter Junior School and reading her story Tuamor the Turtle to children in Upper One, as part of our turtle and plastic pollution topic. Jo is an education Sea Champion with the Marine Conservation Society and will be doing a wider presentation about the issue and explaining how we can make a positive difference. Your child will have the opportunity to buy a copy of the book, priced £6, which will be signed by Jo on the day with your child’s name inside. If your child wishes to purchase the book then please ensure they bring the correct money in a sealed envelope/purse.

Junior Sport News

Last week, A Level biology for Upper Sixth kicked off with a hands-on team building exercise, where model chlorophyll molecules were used to build a diagram of a chloroplast. Pupils learnt about the structure of a chlorophyll and its role in the light dependent stage of photosynthesis. If you're wishing your science lessons in sixth form could be this engaging, why not pop in and see us on Saturday 27 September? Open day activities will be going on in different departments to showcase how we teach here at Exeter School. Head over to our website to register now. #sixthformlife #opendays #biology #photosynthesis #chlorophyll #college #alevels #exeterschoolopenday
