Pre-Prep Reflections Week 13 2023
Dear parents,
What an exciting final week of term it has been, with Christmas festivities taking centre stage as usual! Thank you so much to everyone who has sent in cards and gifts over the last week to me and the rest of the team. We are incredibly grateful for your generosity and thoughtfulness. Your kind words mean so much and have definitely kept us going through this very busy time of year.
Monday
The children and staff looked wonderful in their Christmas jumpers. After a successful nativity dress rehearsal, which was photographed and video recorded, Year 2 walked up the road to Westbank’s day centre, where they sang their nativity songs and spread Christmas cheer to a very appreciative audience.
Tuesday
In the afternoon, the whole school gathered in the hall to watch ‘Gnome Alone’, a Christmas pantomime about the importance of friendship and kindness, performed once again by the excellent Tip of the Iceberg Theatre Company – “oh yes it was!” etc.
Wednesday
We enjoyed a special Christmas lunch of roast turkey with all the trimmings in the hall. Then the children gave a rousing first performance of their ‘Mary Poppins’ inspired nativity. Huge thanks to Ms Richards and all the staff for their outstanding work on this. The children sang, danced and acted their hearts out and I certainly had a tear in my eye! We were all extremely proud of them.
Thursday
School chaplain Rev. Close visited to lead an assembly about the Christmas story and he brought along his guitar to sing carols with the children. The second nativity performance was equally brilliant in the afternoon and we were delighted to see former headmistress Miss Taylor in the audience.
Friday
Today, we welcomed our drama club teacher Ruth Lawrence into school to lead a special Christmas party for all the children in the hall. As usual, it was fantastic fun and Santa delivered a sack of presents to each class. We hope the children enjoy sharing their Christmas story books with you over the holidays.
Goodbye
Sadly, we said farewell to Jemima in Year 1 today. We will miss her very much and look forward to welcoming her little sister into the Nursery later in the year. When we return in January, we look forward to welcoming five new pupils in Nursery and one in Year 1. I hope everyone gets some time to rest and recharge over the break, ready for further adventures in 2024! We look forward to seeing you again on Wednesday 3 January.
Wishing you all a very merry Christmas and a happy new year.
