RAF cadet Royal Air Squadron Trophy (RAST) competition

Posted: 4th February 2025

Competition

On Sunday 2 February, 13 members of the RAF section headed to Blandford Camp in Dorset to participate in the 2025 Royal Air Squadron Trophy; the South West regional RAF competition. This was the culmination of months of hard work, extra training sessions on Saturday’s and after CCF every Friday. The team, lead by Cadet Warrant Officer Joel, were pitted against cadets from many other schools in the region. They were tested on their first aid knowledge in a realistic scenario involving a road traffic collision, a shooting competition, a leadership task, space and cyber tasks as well as a uniform inspection and drill routine. The cadets performed exceptionally throughout the day, doing themselves and the school proud.

Training

This week, four members from the RAF cadet Royal Air Squadron Trophy (RAST) team have been honing their shooting skills before they compete this Sunday against other RAF units within the Southwest. Angelica, Oliver, Joel and Chloe are forming the shooting team and have been practicing all week, producing great results. Cadets are scored on how tight they can group their shots onto the target area, using their Marksmanship principles. They have been using the BSA Scorpion Cadet air rifle .177, which is a pre-charged air rifle.

They will also take part in other competitive activities along with other members of our RAF cadets who have also been dedicated and practising over the last few weeks. Tasks will include RAF knowledge, Drill (marching) and uniform presentation, command task, shooting, aircraft recognition and first aid.

We wish Mr Cunningham and the team all the best for Sunday as the top three teams from each region will then compete for the national finals.
