On Thursday 5 December, all of the junior school pupils and staff went on their annual History Expedition Day, with each year group visiting a different venue across Devon.
- Form One visited the RAMM (Royal Albert Memorial Museum) just down the road in Exeter. They are currently studying Ancient Egypt, and the museum organised a variety of exciting activities for the pupils, including mummification workshops and the chance to handle ancient artifacts.
- Upper One returned to Tiverton Museum to explore the Anglo-Saxons, with a focus on their impact on Devon. The pupils had a great time exploring the museum and taking part in various activities. Many of them (and even some of the staff!) enjoyed posing for photos in a warrior’s helmet!
- Lower Two made their annual trip to Buckland Abbey this year, where they delved into the history of the dissolution of the monasteries and learned about the home of Sir Francis Drake. They were in for an extra treat when they arrived, as the entire abbey had been beautifully decorated for the festive season, adding a tinsel-load of Christmas cheer to their visit!
- Upper Two visited Powderham Castle, where they had a fantastic time immersing themselves in Victorian history. The pupils spent part of the day baking traditional treats in the Victorian kitchen and learning about the culinary techniques of the time. They also helped prepare the house for the Earl of Powderham’s Christmas feast, getting hands-on experience with holiday traditions from the past. The highlight of the trip was a fascinating tour of the castle, led by the knowledgeable butler, Mr. Kenton. He shared intriguing details about the castle’s history and its current role as a family home, making the visit both educational and enjoyable for all.
All of the pupils had a wonderful time, learning lots and the day promoted engaging, relevant and interesting history across the school.

Stella, in Lower Two, wrote a beautiful poem about the day.
