The first of our music Christmas concerts took place on Tuesday 3 December, this year in the beautiful acoustic and conveniently located St. Michael and All Angels’ Church, Heavitree. It has been the venue for our spring charity concert for many years, and meant that daytime rehearsals were a short walk away from school.
A number of our smaller ensembles and soloists who missed out on performing due to the cancellation of the November Chamber Concert due to the snow appeared at this concert, resulting in a programme which was not exclusively festive. As a consequence, a grand total of 10 different ensembles featured, along with soloists Lucia (Upper Sixth) on her flute, Tom (Upper Fifth) playing his trumpet and ‘cellist Dominic (Upper Fifth).
Pupils from across the senior school were involved in the concert, along with junior violinists Grace and Taylor, who are regular members of the Symphony Orchestra.
The audience were invited to join in the music-making, singing Hark! The Herald and O Come, All Ye Faithful, joining the pupil singers and accompanied by Symphony Orchestra and Mr Daldorph on the organ.
There is much festive musical cheer to come before the end of term. The junior school will be holding their annual Carol event supported by an audience of their families on Tuesday 10 December, whilst all pupils within the school will be participating in carol services on Friday 13 December at St. Leonard’s Church. The final concert of the season is the senior school Christmas Concert on Tuesday 17 December, for which tickets can be ordered on the My School Portal box-office, featuring many of the ensembles that have yet to perform this Christmas season, including Senior Choir, Jazz Bands 1 and 2, Swunk and Swunkette.
The audio recording for the first half of the WaterAid concert can be found here. Whilst the audio for the second half can be found here.
