Upper Sixth trip to Parliament and the UK Supreme Court

Posted: 8th October 2024

The Upper Sixth politics pupils recently enjoyed an informative morning visiting the UK Supreme Court. They received a guided tour of the court rooms and an educational talk covering the selection of Supreme Court justices, the role of the court, and the process by which cases reach the court.

This was followed by an inspiring guided tour of Parliament where they visited both the House of Lords and the Commons, Westminster Hall, the parliamentary division lobbies, the King’s robing room, and central lobby. Thereafter, the pupils received a presentation from Baroness Smith of Llanfaes, Carmen Smith who was formally the youngest member of the House of Lords, aged only 27. She explained her route into politics, the role of a peer, and her current amendment pertaining to the Crown Estate.
