We have just had confirmation that Tom, in the Lower Sixth, has had one of his GCSEs upgraded to a grade 9. This means that he joins Max, Caspar and Rosie in the ‘145 club’ being one of only 145 pupils nationally to achieve 11 or more grade 9s at GCSE in 2024.
In summer 2023, three pupils achieved eleven grade 9 GCSEs each. A fourth pupil then secured the same feat with a remark upgrading from an 8 to a 9. Phoebe, Matty, Toby and Sydney have all continued on into our sixth form and are studying maths with a mix of sciences, history and economics subjects alongside. They did exceptionally well to score so many top grades and we are extremely proud of them – there were a total of only 126 pupils nationally who managed this academic feat.
A grade 9 is generally only awarded to those in the top 5% or 1 in 20 candidates which shows how exceptionally the pupils at Exeter School perform in these national exams. Our academic outcomes are certainly to note, having been recognised by The Sunday Times as being in The Top 10 Independent Schools for Academic Performance in the south west. The Top School Guide places us 6th in their rankings and list us as the top school in Devon.
