The Senior School art department were delighted to have Year 2 pupils from Exeter Pre-Prep visit for a printmaking workshop on Thursday 6 June.
Inspired by our British seashores and environmental activism pupils produced collagraph plates using sea life cut outs and found materials such as wastepaper, bubble wrap and netting. Some pupils developed their work even further by layering their cut outs to achieve greater detail and definition on their images, producing dynamic and thoughtful responses to the theme.
Once completed, Year 2 had the opportunity to ink their plates up with rollers and finally, pull the print through on the big press. To conclude, pupils refined their work even further by using discarded bottle caps and plastic objects to stamp additional shapes and textures on to their final print.
Mrs Rafferty-White said “the pupils approached the workshop with such enthusiasm and creativity, resulting in an outstanding calibre of print outcomes. They worked with great endeavour and really thought about the overall layout and composition of their prints as well as adding layers of detail”
The pupils really enjoyed having the opportunity to use the large printing press in the art studio, commenting that it was “really fun” and “the best part”.
A big thanks to Exeter Pre-Prep staff who helped to support the workshop; we look forward to welcoming you all again next time.
