We are absolutely delighted to be welcoming Graeme Swan as our new catering manager!
Graeme joins us after an incredibly diverse and exciting career. He started as a chef in the Royal Navy (RN), a role which developed his skills whilst enabling him to travel. When serving on ship, one of Graeme’s aims was to keep the food fun, delicious, and homely, too. Graeme recalled the time that he wanted to make a Nando’s-themed dinner, so he contacted the company. Nando’s were keen to collaborate, so they sent out their branded sauces, and the Navy had an authentic Nando’s evening in the middle of the sea. Graeme also has extensive experience serving at functions. He’s previously served on the commissioning of the Queen Elizabeth II aircraft carrier, made a cake for Princess Anne, as well as serving delegates and prime ministers. It wasn’t all luxurious though – Graeme described the myriad of locations where he had limited supplies and equipment, such as preparing reindeer steaks and chips for 70 people in the middle of Norway, with only a small gas hob.
Life on ship wasn’t forever, however, as Graeme was blessed with a daughter and wanted to be with his family. Upon his return, he continued work with the Royal Navy, training up the new chefs. His most recent work has been in a care home.
Graeme is excited for the variation of food that Exeter School can offer and introducing the pupils to new platters. He has already noticed the incredible skill set of his colleagues, and he’s looking forward to working with them and learning from them too.
