The southwest regional swimming championships saw many Exeter School pupils participating and sweeping up medals recently. Exeter City Swimming Club was represented by James, Evie, Holly, Alex, Daniel, Harry and Lewis – some of whom have now qualified to go on to the English or British championships.

James in Lower Fifth (Year 9) won gold in the 50 fly, silver in the 100 fly, silver in the 200 fly, bronze in the 400 IM and bronze in the 800 free.

Evie, also in Lower Fifth, swam in eight regional events, reaching the finals of all them and medalled in three: 800 free (bronze), 400 free (silver) and 200 fly (silver).

Holly in Third Form (Year 7) won a whopping nine gold medals: the 200 fly, the 200 freestyle, 200 back, 200 IM, 100 fly, 100 back, 100 free, 50 fly and 50 free.

Harry in Middle Fifth got bronze in 800 and 1500 free (with English qualifying times in these) and 400 IM (with a British qualifying time in this).

In the junior school, we had our sprinters – Joseph, Junchen, Emily and Barnaby – taking part in the Paignton Sprints last weekend. They all swam so well and achieved some great personal best times. Taking part in the arena league were Monty, Barnaby and Alex – the last of whom has gone through to the southwest regionals.

We wish our pupils all the best at the national events.
