In Nursery we have continued our learning about different modes of transport. This week we have focused on trains and read the book The Runaway Train by Benedict Balthwayt. The children enjoyed making lots of train sound effects and actions throughout the story. In literacy, we have finished learning our phase 2 letter sounds and are now revisiting them to consolidate our learning. The class have enjoyed various sound recognition, reading and segmenting games. We have also introduced some new Phase 3 letter sounds to the children, and everyone has enjoyed singing the jolly phonics songs. In mathematics, we have been learning all about length. We created two trains in the classroom and worked out which one was the longest or shortest by counting the carriages to check. Everyone had fun taking it in turns to be the driver and choosing how many carriages they would like on their train! The children have also taken great care over painting their own train in the craft area and had fun selecting what colours they wanted their train to be.
