Congratulations go to Lydia B-F (U5th Buller) who will be taking part in the World Scouts Jamboree to South Korea this summer. She has succeeded in raising (and exceeding) her fundraising target of £4300 to attend the jamboree. This is a huge amount of money for a 15-year-old to raise. And she has managed this in advance of the deadline, while keeping up with her GCSE studies, drama practical performances, and vet work experience.
She has raised this money all by herself with no financial support from her parents. She raised money by emailing and writing letters to companies with Devon roots such as The Mindful Chef, Exeter Chiefs, Packexe, Pipers Farm and Luscombe Drinks who have all generously supported her.
She has also received support from local attractions such as Pennywell Farm and Seaton Tramway and organisations such as the Freemasons and St Leonards Association. She received wonderful prizes for a raffle from Magdalen Road and city centre businesses including Waitrose Exeter.
She has run several cake stalls where she also sold raffle tickets and interacted with the public. This included one at school last summer.
She has also given every penny of her Saturday job at The Sandwiched Inn on Magdalen Road and received support from Exonians who were scouts too. We are truly inspired by your showcase of our welcome and serve virtue.
Think big. Dream wild. Act together.
