It was fantastic to see the junior school athletics team compete in the Exeter Cathedral School competition this week. There was much hype on the afternoon, aided by the glorious sunshine. Pupils across both age groups took part in events such as the cricket/rounders ball throw, hurdles, high jump, 200m, 800m, long jump, 100m and the 4 x 100m relay. Throughout the course of the afternoon, it was superb to see athletes performing to the best of their ability, regardless of the outcome. Pupils displayed, resilience, determination, skill and talent during the whole event, and the comradery and sense of team was extremely evident and a delight to witness.
Some notable performances came from all the relay teams, and Exeter School won three out of the four races. William M threw a huge 43m in the U11 cricket ball throw and Arthur T 28m in the U9 boys. Holly J got a personal best in the high jump, winning her event, and Jonathan jumped a whopping 1m 22cm beating his PB by 7cm and nearly jumping his own height! Ioan T, Amelie C, and Harrison S were delighted with their distances in long jump, once again jumping PB’s throughout the afternoon. On the track Kiera M ran an impressive 200m, as did Charlie B in the 800m running a year up. Lastly huge congratulations to Max d-P who was awarded a special event across the whole competition for the outstanding performance across the afternoon in the 800m, winning the race in a very impressive time of 2 minutes 46 seconds. Well done to all the competitors for making the afternoon so enjoyable and I know all the Exeter School pupils were delighted to have won the overall event, beating ECS, Trinity and Plymouth to the title.
